|When you started competing in international competitions, did you see yourself being in the top-10?
I started competing in international competitions in the category Youth B in 2010. At the beginning of every season I never know, how fit I am. Last year my goal was to reach three lead world cup finals because I wanted to improve every year and in 2014 I did 2 finals and in 2013 I did one final. I never expected that I could climb into every final in the last season.
What motivated you to compete rather than just to climb outside?
When I was young I almost never climbed on rock because my parents are non-climbers and I train alone for the most time. When I became a member of the Austrian Climbing Team I got involved into the real climbing world. We went on rock trips every year. First I didn’t like it and preferred plastic, but after some time I started enjoying climbing in the nature. Last year in the winter over New Years Eve I was on my first private rock trip with friends in Spain, which was really special to me. Since then I like both: rock and plastic!
What motivate me to compete are the trips to new places with people who have the same passion, the friendly climbing community from all over the world, the new routes and boulders in every competition and goals, which drives my motivation in training.
What are some struggles you face as an athlete?
At the moment I struggle with combining school and training. But in summer everything should be done and then I can concentrate on training again.
What influenced you to start competing?
One month after I started climbing I competed in a local competition because the gym was not so far away and my trainer said I should compete just for fun. I had absolutely no pressure and the position I reached was unimportant for me. I just climbed up the wall as far as I could and had fun. When I started competing in national competitions and ranked among the top 4 I was allowed to compete international. But I never had real goals in my first international youth years and also didn´t train with a training plan.
Who most helped you get to where you are right now?
So many people helped me and are still behind me to reach my goals. My parents, my trainer Ingo Filzwieser and the Austria Climbing Team give me a great environment. Moreover, my sponsors Red Bull, Chillaz, Scarpa and Sport.Land.Niederösterreich are important for good performances by supporting in many areas.
What advice could you give to Young Athletes?
Up to the age of 15 I just went a lot of climbing. I climbed many routes but never tried really hard ones. I think I got a good feeling for my body on the wall and even more importantly, I always had a lot of fun. But of course, if 14 year olds want to climb 9a on rock, then this is maybe the wrong way.
What are some of your favourite hobbies?
chilling, lying in the sun, starring onto my smartphone, watching movies, reading books, running, baking, cooking
